How Sharing Works

When you run the agent from a folder, that folder becomes accessible to AI assistants connected to your workspace. The AI can read files, list directories, and search within that folder.

What the AI can access

• Files and folders inside the directory you shared
• Subdirectories recursively

What the AI cannot access

• Anything outside the shared folder
• Files matching your .devicelinkignore rules (e.g. .env, private keys, node_modules)
• Anything on a device that is offline or not running the agent

Your files are encrypted in transit and never stored

File contents are streamed in real-time to the AI over TLS. DeviceLink's servers act as an authenticated relay - they route the request but never store or buffer your file data.

DeviceLink is not end-to-end encrypted: the relay terminates TLS to route a request, so file contents pass through our servers in memory. They are never written to disk, cached, or logged.
